FÚTBOL & MOVIES AT THE ACADEMY MUSEUM

In the summer of 2026, the soccer fever reaches the Academy Museum. In a way, this is how Hollywood welcomes soccer fans from around the world and lets them carry a piece of Oscar history in their hearts, through guided visits and a series of free screenings and events at the venue.


In honor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the host city, Los Angeles, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures celebrates Fútbol Free Day on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with a wide range of activities, including a free museum visit to all its galleries, featuring Jaws: The Exhibition, Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo, Barbie to Anna Karenina: The Cinematic Worlds of Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer, and the iconic red slippers of “The Wizard of Oz” in the Identity Gallery. 


A human-sized inflatable foosball will be available in Walt Disney Company Piazza at the back of the Museum, along with food vendors. 



The events include free screenings of classic soccer movies in the Museum’s theaters, featuring pristine 35 mm projections.

Bend It Like Beckham/Jugando al destino, in 35mm. 

The 2003 global soccer hit is 

directed by Gurinder Chadha. 

United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.



5:00 pm 

Offside in 35mm. 

This powerful Iranian drama, directed by Jafar Panahi, focuses on the regime’s inequality that prevents women from entering stadiums.

You don’t need to make a reservation or print a ticket in advance. The Academy team will welcome you all.

AFI Fest 2023 Brings the Best of the World Cinema to Los Angeles

AFI Fest 2023 opens on Wednesday, October 25, and goes until 29, 2023. Film lovers will rejoice in the prestigious Angelino movie fiesta, which showcases over 140 films. Some of those are already Award-winning films from other festivals, such as Berlin, Venice, and Cannes. 


The Red Carpets and Special Screenings are the Oscars hopefuls such as "Maestro," "Leave the World Behind," and "Maxine's Baby: The Tyler Perry Story." Others, like "All of Us Strangers," "American Fiction," "The Bikeriders," "The End We Start From," "Fingernails," "Freud's Last Season," "Lee," "Memory," "Quiz Lady," and "Society of Snow" are contenders as well.

The audience will have only five days to watch as many marvelous gems as possible and meet some filmmakers and possibly the casts from many faraway countries. They will come to Los Angeles to support their respective films and show what they are capable of in Hollywood.
