By José Alberto Hermosillo

The 2024 World’s Best Film Festival Posters selected by the Festival in LA showcase some highly creative and imaginative designs that exceed expectations. These exceptional pieces would be perfect for a private collection, a museum exhibit, or a widely circulated publication.
The talented graphic designers, agencies, and artists involved have crafted truly remarkable and inspiring works for movie lovers who enjoy supporting their community’s cinematic events each year.
Creating posters is an art form that visually combines the creator’s vision, effectively conveying the right amount of information. In graphic design, poster-making involves blending images, fonts, a limited color palette, mixed media, and even the absence of color—techniques that can evoke emotional responses from viewers.
We chose pieces with high complexity that elicited strong emotional responses from the audience. However, upon closer inspection, we see that simplicity is often one of the most essential elements in each work.
It takes some time to understand each piece’s meaning, especially those that highlight the city’s culture, art, political unrest, historical events, celebrations, anniversaries, and most importantly, the human connection between the festival and its audience.
The meaning behind these incredible images is powerful. The wide range of emotions spans from the triumphant entry of a magnificent elephant in Venice to a diverse group of spectators watching a film inside a theater in New York City.
Artificial intelligence, or AI, has created a connection between the human body and bookshelves, with specific motifs inside representing each year of the South Korean festival’s history.
The stories keep coming, from someone waving a handkerchief that looks like a calla lily in a moving vehicle in Athens to observing heartbeat waves in India.
The vivid, colorful images also unite the South Asian community in Seattle, creating a striking contrast with the glamour of a Hollywood red carpet at HollyShorts.
A powerful still photo from Akira Kurosawa’s “Rhapsody in August,” taken in Cannes, shows four children and their grandmother sitting on a bench, contemplating the valley where the atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima.
The poetic poster from Trieste, Italy, depicts a beautiful yet unsettling scene of two children playing in a peaceful lake amid Ukraine’s turbulent landscape. The contrast between humans and monarch butterflies at the Mexican/German festival sparks endless imagination. The guerrilla filmmaking from an Argentine documentary festival delivers a clear and impactful message.
It is also amusing to see a lively crowd, where an eclectic group of attendees looks at the viewer in Palm Springs. Even a VHS tape can grab attention with its creative, nostalgic, and retro graphic design. Lastly, the human brain from Colombia can be both bold and beautifully unsettling.
As viewers scroll through the article, they will notice that the posters are intentionally and thoughtfully arranged based on their complexity, beauty, and mastery level. Even the newest ones are beautifully designed.
Here, you see the work of an entire year, selecting sixty-five pieces out of five hundred from The World’s Best Film Festival Posters 2024.
